Although the history of gambling goes back a long way, the history of online gambling is a much more recent story. Online gambling has really only been in full swing since the mid-1990’s. It really wasn’t until the high speed internet began to penetrate into the home market that online gambling really started to take off. Once the internet became sophisticated enough to handle smooth, online casino gaming, it boomed in a big way. Within 10 years or so, the online casino industry was in full swing. But there have been many changes and developments in the process.
Land based casino gambling has a long and rich history and before the land based casinos, gambling existed for hundreds of years in communities all over the world. Online gambling however is something much more recent and has only taken off in the last 10 years. The best part about the online gambling boom is that it facilitating gambling and brought the action and excitement of land based casinos right to the comfort of their home.
In any country you visit, there is always some sort of Online Gambling. Playing games of chance is a universal; some forms exist in every country, in town. Wagering has its roots in the ancient lotteries where they first appeared in Burgundy in the 15th century. These games of chance were quickly adopted by both the very poor, who had nothing to lose and saw that they could win quickly by gambling all their cash away; and the very rich, who didn't care if they lost a lot of money, they were simply looking for a good time.

In time, however, these other games obtained there own mystique. With the advent of Poker, Blackjack and Craps, these games soared to dizzying popularity and became the theme for many movies and books. This occurred mainly thanks to Nevada, which was the first state to legalize online gambling in Las Vegas and other cities. Atlantic city was soon to follow, and the reservation casinos opened and the rest is history. Now, Online gambling is a multi-billion dollar industry estimated to be worth 453 billion dollars just last year. Online Casino Gambling has indeed become mainstream for everyone to enjoy. |
