- Wednesday, 21 Dec 2005
As we approach 2006, gambling is still illegal in Israel, including online gambling. In terms of “physical” gambling, most people must travel abroad in order to enter legal casinos, including organized trips to Jericho. Now, with the flourishing of the online casinos and gambling worldwide, people in Israel can access International gambling sites from the comfort of their home.
Still, gambling sites in Israel are banned. The police’s national fraud division has recently launched an investigation into alleged advertising of illegal websites by the major portal Walla. Walla has denied the accusations and claimed its contents would never include any illegal advertisements. The General Prosecutor’s office has decided to start reinforcing the law against online gambling in Israel with all force possible. And so it is quite logical to expect more investigations launched and harsher rules being reinforced on different portals and different public websites, including newspaper and entertainment websites in Hebrew.
Some people remain hopeful that in the near future, gambling in all its forms, physical as well as cybernetic, will be available and legal in Israel. Many claim that it would develop and assist the economy in Israel. According to their calculations, the gambling industry will supply more employment opportunities, advertising budgets, additional merchandise, etc. Physical and online casinos can flourish everywhere in Israel, whether in tourist-favourite spots or in major cities. And with the recent progress concerning car races which may be legalized, there seems to be great hope for the gambling industry in Israel. | |
