According to a recent research, the online casino gambling industry has doubled itself in the last five years. The study, which was made by RSe Consulting, showed that more than one millions British citizens regularly play in online gambling sites, a third of Europe’s 3.3 million. The industry takes bets of 3.5 billion pounds a year, with an average bet of 1,000 pounds. All of these figures may help the UK in their attempt to achieve a global regulation over the online casino gambling industry, as opposed to the US stance on this controversial issue.
Tessa Jowell, UK’s Culture Secretary recently organized a global meeting, in which 32 nations agreed to a set of principles that will guide the regulation of the online gambling industry. Britain, France, Germany, Spain and Italy – among others – attended the meeting, although the big disappointment came from the US, who didn’t came, despite a formal invitation. Peter Crauna, Gibraltar’s prime minister said after the conference: “This is only a political statement. A lot of work should be done now in order to successfully regulate the online gambling industry”.
Jowell’s estimates that there currently are more than 2,300 online gambling web sites around the world, with Antigua topping the list and Costa Rica right behind her. Although the UK has around 70 online gambling sites, none of them currently offers Poker, Blackjack or roulette. There’s no doubt that a lot of work still has to be done, but it certainly seems that the online gambling industry is heading towards the right way. | |
