- Monday, 17 Jul 2006
Birmingham, UK will be the new home for the Gambling Commission, which regulates this popular industry. The commission is on e of the first public bodies to move to the city after the government’s Lyons review stated relocations of public bodies in 2004. Richard Caborn, Minister of Sport and Gambling, will be attending the opening of the Victoria Square office, where 200 jobs will be created when the office becomes fully operational this year.
‘Birmingham was the clear frontrunner in our search for new headquarters. We have been absolutely delighted with the caliber of staff who have joined us, and over the next few months we will be advertising a range of additional vacancies,’ said Gambling Commission chairman, Peter Dean. Leader of the Birmingham City Council, Mike Whitby, feels that the Gambling Commission will feel at home in their new surroundings, and hopes that this move will spur other businesses to make the move as well.
Where Britain’s first Las Vegas-style ‘super casino’ will be put up is still unknown, although there is a shortlist of eight possible sites already in the running. It seems that Britain is definitely moving forward with the gambling industry, both land-based and online, and is benefiting from legalizing and regulating this popular and growing industry. UK residents who are gambling fans will anxiously wait to see which city and location will win the bid to be the site of the first Las Vegas-style casino in Britain. In the meantime, they will continue their gambling enjoyment both online and in other gambling sites around the country.
