- Saturday, 3 Jun 2006
Land casinos have been quietly eyeing out the development of the online gambling markets in recent months. Previously insistent that they did not want to have anything to do with the online gambling industry, land casinos are slowly beginning to understand that the two industries are intertwined and what happens to the one can directly affect the other. Some of the investors in land casinos are starting to show increased interest in investing in online gambling sites too.
The legal future of online gambling is one aspect on which the two entities have begun working together. Leading US land casino operators recently began to lobby Congress to legalize online gambling, aligning themselves to the industry’s belief that legislation is the best way to control and monitor the ever expanding and extremely popular online gambling industry. It is also understood that the online gambling industry is a major tax leak for the US government, something which the land casinos are unable to avoid.
Offshore online gambling companies are slightly dubious about this occurrence, because if a strong alignment is formed between American based online gambling sites (which will develop if the industry is regulated) and the land casinos, American will probably prefer to play on locally run online casinos that offshore sites.
