One advantage online casino fans have over traditional gambling fans is that they never have to worry about being cheated by some of the individuals named in Nevada's List of Excluded Persons. This list contains some of the most well-known gangsters, criminals and gambling cheats who have been banned from gambling at Nevada’s casinos for life. The List of Excluded Persons is published by Nevada's State Gaming Control Board and those named in its pages are a veritable who’s who in the world of gaming crime.
More popularly known as the Black Book, the list’s pages contain the names of gamblers banned from all gambling activities in the state after being convicted of gambling offenses. The list currently includes the names of 37 men and one woman and was first set up in 1960 as a means of cracking down on mafia activity. Among those who have been on the List of Excluded Persons for the longest period of time are Alvin Kaohu and Wilford Pulawa, two Hawaiians whose names were added in 1975. And while the list caters for old-school gambling cheats, the names of several hackers and organizers of online fraud campaigns can be found on it too.
While the list has undoubtedly a glamorous air to it, it has been criticised by anti-gambling lobbyists who state that its existence is a public relations exercise in order to prove Nevada cares about gambling crime. Lobbyists state Las Vegas could do more to deter crime in its casinos by enforcing responsible gaming practices similar to those under discussion in the online casino industry.
