- Tuesday, 30 May 2006
A recent case in Atlantic City proves once again that when Lady Luck decides to bless the gambling world, age doesn’t play a part in her decision. A lucky senior citizen, whose love for gambling has brought her to Atlantic City since the casino first opened 30 years ago, made gambling history recently when she won an incredible $10-million! Until recently, the highest amount won in Atlantic City’s history was $8.5-million – a fact which makes this windfall even more exciting.
The 84-year old widow, Josephine Crawford, had been gambling at the Atlantic City’s nickel (!) slot machines when she suddenly found herself an instant millionaire ten times over. In an interesting twist to the story, Crawford has yet to decide whether she wants to take her gambling prize in one lump sum or in installments over a period of 25 years. Considering her age, it seems that it should be too difficult to decide, but, then again, this lady is not your typical gambling winner.
While the gambling windfall will certainly change Crawford’s life, she has no intention of going on an obsessive spending spree. The happy senior citizen promised that most of the gambling prize would go to her family, which consists of two daughters and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
