- Sunday, 2 Apr 2006
One of the world’s largest gambling firms, Harrah's Entertainment has teamed up with Academy Award winning director James Cameron to develop a bid aiming to create a theme park at one of Singapore's first gambling resorts. If successful, the "iPort” project will offer a range of interactive entertainments such as rides, along with restaurants and shops at the Singaporean gambling resort when it opens in 2010.
The gambling firm intends to develop the new project using its Caesars brand name, and will call the future venue "Caesars Singapore" if its bid wins. Singapore’s government recently called for bids in an attempt to enhance its Marina Bay site by providing three luxury gambling resorts designed to boost the country’s tourism. The winning bid will be announced this year. Already major international gambling operators such as Las Vegas Sands and MGM Mirage have put forward bids, keen to replicate the success of their live casino ventures in the Chinese province of Macau.
Once announced, the winner of the bid will be entitled to start work on the gambling resort immediately. CEO and president of Harrah’s Entertainment, Gary Loveman, has stated that the opportunity to develop an Asian gambling resort is a unique opportunity, predicting the development will become “the gateway attraction for Asia."
