Most online gambling bets are processed in Costa Rica. This fact is fast becoming apparent as the laws regarding online gambling prohibits online casino operators from setting up shop in the United State’s borders. This Central American country has become the capital for internet gambling and over 200 companies have set up shop there.
One of the big advantage for internet gambling companies is the fact that they don’t have to pay taxes on profits they earn outside of the country. The companies are also out of reach of the American law enforcement agencies who prohibit, according to the Wire Act, the placing of bids on the internet. Internet gambling has become a $12 billion global business and Costa Rica is definitely seeing a significant chunk of that money. For example, on one night of the NCAA basketball championship game, one online gambling company based in Costa Rica took in over 100,000 wagers.
American law makers are aware of the fact that it is nearly impossible to enforce the laws against internet gambling in countries that are not under its jurisdiction. A new law in the pipelines in America could put a halt on these gambling activities by curbing payment options, even for offshore casinos, but the law does not look like it will be going through, according to recent developments. In the mean time, the Costa Ricans are enjoying the fact that this industry is pumping millions of dollars into their country every year. | |
