It seems as if the world has gone crazy with poker gambling and the Hollywood film industry is proving it's no exception to the rule. The latest gambling film to start production is "Deal", featuring Burt Reynolds and teen heartthrob Bret Harrison. Billed as a "Karate Kid-style poker flick", the film is set in the exciting world of live poker gambling and promises to end with a typical Hollywood twist.
Directed and co-written by newcomer Gil Cates Junior, the film explores the gambling dens of New Orleans and follows the adventures of a college student keen to learn the best tips from a former gambling star. The relationship between the two is peaceful until both characters become embroiled in a heated dispute, only to find themselves facing each other at one of the world's most prestigious gambling events, the World Poker Tour Championships.
While Reynolds and Harrison provide much of the action, gambling fans will easily spot some other famous faces in the crowd. Celebrity poker star Shannon Elizabeth will appear alongside gambling professionals Phil Laak, Antonio Esfandari and Vince Van Patten in the film. Celebrity gamblers have also appeared recently in another poker-related film in production starring Eric Bana and Drew Barrymore.
