Following reports that Hollywood actor/director George Clooney planned to denote all his gambling profits to impoverished African nations comes news that the star’s plans to develop a new gambling establishment have been abandoned. The resort billed as Las Ramblas Casino has failed to get off the ground due to the decision of Clooney’s backers to sell the casino’s land to another syndicate. Clooney and Cindy Crawford’s husband Rande Gerber had planned to build the prestigious gambling establishment with the view of opening its doors to Hollywood’s elite in 2008.
However, far from giving up, Clooney is now focusing his attention on sourcing new backers for his gambling resort. Las Ramblas plans to offer a relaxing and sophisticated 1950’s style environment for Hollywood’s elite to enjoy non-stop gambling action. The complex will also feature separate condominiums along with a five star hotel, shopping center, restaurants and health spa. Clooney has also stood firmly behind his claim that one quarter of the gambling profits generated by Las Ramblas will be donated to organizations aiming to alleviate poverty in Africa.
In the meantime, the Hollywood star has donated the profits made from his share of the sale of the land to the African Debt Relief Project. His partner in the gambling venture also remains positive about sourcing a new location for the resort. Gerber has stated that he and Clooney “are committed to developing a Vegas gambling project together."
