- Sunday, 13 Aug 2006
The online gambling venue, Poker Champs, has been recently acquired by the online casino operator Betfair and will have to change its approach towards United States players. Betfair has a longstanding policy regarding online gambling players from the US and does not allow Americans to open accounts on its online gambling sites. Now that Poker Champs is a part of the Betfair chain, all US accounts will be closed and US players won't be able to play on that site anymore.
Although it seems that Betfair is directly responding to the online gambling legal fiasco that is going on in the United States, Betfair claims that nothing has changed in its policy towards US players and that it has never accepted American players. The unknown legal future of the online gambling industry in the United States affects many elements in the industry and the people who get hurt are US players. Poker Champs is one of the most popular online gambling sites on the net, and many players will have to find a different place to gamble. As part of the transition, Poker Champs will undergo a remodeling process and will make to look like all other Betfair's sites. Betfair is also planning to integrate its Betfair poker platform with Poker Champs' current offering. It is hard to say what will be the fate of Betfair's relationship with US players, but hopefully a reasonable solution can be found. The United States has the biggest online gambling market and it can only benefit Betfair's business to accept US players on its sites. Legal matters will have to solve this one, apparently. | |
