- Sunday, 24 Dec 2006
Although some younger online gambling players may not know it, the world of gambling has come a long way since its early days. It's hard to imagine, but online gambling sites are practically new when looking at gambling history, and even land-based casinos can be considered pretty young. If we look back in time we will see that gambling existed a long time ago, and although it was pretty different than what we're accustomed right now, it still had the same principles. Our story begins more than two millennia ago, in a land far, far away…
According to many experts, casino dice games, pretty similar to online gambling craps, originated in Egypt. Archaeological excavations have found evidence of dice games in Egypt which date back 2600 years to 600 BC. It's hard to believe, but that's where the online gambling sites, and the whole gambling industry, really initiated. The ironic thing is that nowadays thousands of people play everyday at the Luxor casino in Las Vegas, without knowing the connections of this site to the gambling history.
If it weren't for the Egyptians, we wouldn't be able to visit today the Luxor – both the casino and the archaeological site – and probably wouldn't be able to play at online gambling sites either. The possibility that other civilizations co-originated part of our modern casino games exist, but we will probably never know how would those games be compared to our own, very popular, games. In conclusion, everyone who likes to play at the online gambling site should thank the operator first, and then the Egyptians. | |
