A tiny enclave off the mainland of China and a former Portuguese territory, is not what where you would picture the gambling capital of the world to be located. But that is exactly what is happening in Macau, where the gambling action gets hotter and hotter every month. Because of relaxed restrictions by the Chinese authorities and the lure of the Orient, many players are opting to get their gambling thrills in Macau instead of the traditional locations such as Las Vegas and Atlantic City.
High rollers, especially, seem to prefer the gambling action in Macau. While only half the number of people visit Macau than Vegas, the average gambling takings at a Vegas table are $2,600 a day, while a daily take at a table in Macau is a whopping $12,000! Other gambling statistics reveal that reports for the first-half of 2006 showed that revenues for Las Vegas were $3.1-billion, while Macau came in a close second with $3.1-billion
Market analysts predict that very soon, Macau will be taking over Las Vegas as the biggest gambling market. Already, tour operators are striking deals with Chinese airlines to bring in the masses from the country’s mainland and overseas players are eyeing this location as a great new gambling spot on the map. | |
