The US online casino industry may be going through a crisis, but that doesn’t mean that that’s the situation around the world. In fact, a recent research predicts that by the year 2020 there will be 160 million online gambling users, 4 times more than today. The research, which was recorded by iReach, was published last week in Ireland’s Silicon Republic, and it’s already creating waves all around the industry. “I think that the introduction of new technologies, such as broadband Internet, WAP and interactive TV is certainly helping the online gambling industry to grow” says Ara Cho, a business analyst at iReach.
In a more local perspective, the research estimates that there are currently around 340,000 Irish playing at online casino sites, but the numbers are surely going to rise dramatically in the next couple of years. In addition, the research shows that online gambling companies in Ireland are prospering, some of them even increasing their profits by more than 50%. Even though it is illegal under Irish law for an Irish resident to place a bet with an agent operating outside the Irish State, that’s almost impossible to enforce, and it certainly isn’t implemented right now.
Another important aspect of the research conducted by iReach is the fact that according to the data gathered, 4.5% of mobile users worldwide now use their phones to gamble, which is already a remarkable achievement for online casino sites. Moreover, another research, conducted by Juniper, predicts that by the year 2011 revenue from mobile gambling will have exceeded that of profits from music downloads. As you can see, not everything is bad news at the online gambling world, but we certainly hope for even a brighter future.
