Philippine National Police chief Director General Arturo C. Lomibao has requested a huge operation against all forms of illegal gambling activities in the country. Lomibao has announced his ‘‘1-3-2’’ policy anti-gambling policy will apply to all police commanders regardless of their rank and source of commissionship. Lomibao ordered the beef-up operation after it was reported that the playing of jueteng (an illegal gambling game) had resumed in some parts of Luzon.
Lomibai said that his ‘1-3-2’ policy will apply to all police unit commanders from the station up to the regional level. Under this strict policy, one confirmed illegal gambling case will result in the relief of the chief of police. Three relieved chiefs of police will trigger the relief of the provincial director and two provincial directors relieved for the same cause will cause the relief of the regional director. At least 30 police unit commanders including three provincial directors, 22 chiefs of police and five police-community precinct commanders have been relieved from their posts as part of this anti-illegal gambling mission.
Since the beginning of the year, the PNP has arrested 2,698 persons for illegal gambling. The operations also resulted in the filing of 1,251 charges in court, 52 of them for jueteng, Lomibao said. The police chief created a new anti-illegal gambling task force to go after gambling honchos and their men.
