Many have already heard about Macau, the new gambling capital of the world, but it seems as this Chinese region just continues to grow and grow. There’s no doubt that the introduction of the anti-online casino “Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act” in the US also has a part in it, but the fact is that Macau is already overtaking Las Vegas in gambling revenue. More and more luxurious hotels are built there each day and wherever you look, there are teams of builders making their way to and from work. Right now there are already 12,000 rooms available for visitors in Macau, but analysts predict that in 10 years from now there will be more than 50,000.
Due to the fact that there’s a shortage in available land and the expansion has been going so fast, Chinese authorities have permitted land to be reclaimed from the sea. Macau is taking its lead from Las Vegas in terms of size and grandeur and is allowing the construction of mega gambling complexes, huge themed hotels and replicas of European monuments. One thing is for sure - all of this can’t be good for the online casino industry.
Actually, the online casino sites aren’t the only ones complaining: many people feel that by allowing construction on such a massive scale, the Chinese authorities are ignoring the historical importance of this region. Some of the priceless monuments in Macau are already being replaced by enormous casinos and this is surely just the beginning. One way or another, Las Vegas should certainly start worrying, and the same can be said about the online casino industry
