More and more sports stars are coming out in the open about the fact that they like gambling, a lot. Former NBA star Charles Barkley is the latest to talk about gambling. Sports stars are generally committed to not gambling during their active sports careers because it is feared that they may be inclined to gamble in a way that would influence their game. This rule is probably restricted to sports gambling, but it seems that it is not being followed regarding other forms of gambling. There has been an increased exposure of sports stars who have been confessing to having a strong urge to gamble – yet many do not think they are problem gamblers.
The latest sports start to discuss his gambling habit is Former NBA star Charles Barkley who has begun to talk openly about his gambling, revealing that he has lost an estimated $10 million in the act. Barkley admitted that this may be an expensive pastime, but that he could afford to enjoy gambling, so why not. He admitted that his agent had tried to find alternative and creative ways that he could enjoy gambling in a fun manner, without spending money.
The other sports stars who have admitted having gambling issues are golfer John Daly, suspended Phoenix Coyote assistant coach Rick Tocchet and Calgary Flame forward Darren McCarty. Barkley stressed at the end of the interview that it was his money that he was gambling and that he did not feel that he needs to stop partaking in this pastime. He stressed that none of his gambling had ever compromised his sporting ethics. | |
