Land based gambling operator Harrah’s Entertainment Inc. which operates a number of casinos in the US was one of the bidders for a license to operate land based gambling facilities in Singapore. Harrah’s Entertainment was accompanied by seven other land based gambling operators, including Wynn Resorts Ltd. and MGM Mirage, who also participated in the bidding. Tendering an offer costs 10,000 Singapore dollars, which amounts to $6,000 US dollars.
All eight land based gambling operators who participate in the bidding tendered their offer on the $700,000 Marina Bay casino site. The second site that was up for grabs is located on Sentosa Island. The winning Marina Bay bidder would have to cough up nearly $3 billion in order to construct the land based gambling resorted in the Marina Bay. Harrah’s and its local partner Keppel Land Ltd submitted their bit for the intended site along with MGM Mirage, CapitaLand Ltd., Wynn and Las Vegas Sands Corp.
The bidding was originally planned to start in the second of quarter of this year, but delayed the sale until the end of September, then until the end of November, because of difficulties balancing social consideration the desires of land based gambling operators’.
