- Sunday, 16 Oct 2005
Southeast Asia is shaping up as the gambling capital of the Far East. There are already 77 land based gambling facilities operating from within the area, generating more than $13 in profits. The most puzzling thing about it is that with nearly 80 gambling facilities, only 4 operate on land. There rest of the gambling activity takes place aboard cruse ships or at illegal gambling establishments.
Experts predict that the current gambling boom will carry on into the future. There are plans to construct 50 new land based gambling resorts in the area, which will be operative by the year 2012. Experts also predict that the addition of these land based gambling facilities will triple annual revenues, bringing it to more than $44 billion.
The majority of land based gambling facilities will be five-star resorts, in an attempt to draw in high rollers. Given the economic success that casino gambling has had in the region, more and more countries Southeast Asia are expected to legalize gambling. | |
