Not all college students have it easy. A lot of students have to work in order to pay for their tuition and living expenses. Instead of finding a menial job like witnessing, some student resort to gambling as a method of paying their way through college. Jeremy Olisar, a 21 year-old with a 4.0 average from Carnegie Mellon University, is the latest Absolute Poker’s “Win Your Tuition” gambling tournament. In order to enroll to participate in the gambling tournament, students only needed to comply with three conditions. First, they’d have to show of enrollment for the fall 2005 semester, be in good academic standing with their college/university, and have access to the internet.

Playing in this sort of a gambling tournament for the first time, Olisar defeated all the other participants from 300 colleges all over the world who were competing for the grand prize of tuition paid for one semester. Adam Grapperhaus, a student at Kaskaskia Community College from Patoka, IL., came in at second place winning a laptop. Third through ninth place winners were awarded with Apple iPod NANOs.

Michael Edwards, business development manager for the online gambling site says, “This gambling tournament was an engaging and free way for college students to have fun and compete for an alternative way to pay for tuition. Poker is a gambling game of skill and Jeremy clearly proved he was the best this fall. We applaud him for taking the title and are pleased to have the opportunity to play an important part in his educational pursuits”.
