 Ban on Online Gambling Halts

- Sunday, 18 Sep 2005

Republican Senator from Arizona, Jon Kyl doesn’t want citizens to be able to gamble at online casinos. He is doing everything in his power to stop online gambling. However, his efforts have been brought to a screeching halt. A procedural move has stalled Kyl’s efforts to cut online gambling funds.

'We will proceed with this - it will become law at some point at some time,' Reuters reported Kyl as saying from the Senate floor Sept. 15. Senator Kyl is not going to give up. He believes that he will be able to eventually stop online gambling completely. His attempt to add language, which would limit online gambling to a yearly spending bill, failed. With opposition from a democrat, the subject was momentarily dropped.

The ‘point of order’ was passed by vote of the majority and put Kyl’s amendment to rest. Kyl's proposal would demand that banks and credit card companies bar payments to online gambling sites. The pari-mutuel industry, which is receiving an increasing amount of revenue from online gambling and telephone account bets, is the involved party. 'There should be no reason why we can't move forward on this.' It seems that online gambling and online casinos will be receiving more opposition in the coming months from the U.S. Senate.
