The Normandie Casino is headed for Las Vegas for the World Poker Series, which starts April 18. The Normandie Casino, after more than 50 years, is Southern California's Oldest Casino and is still a family-run business, only one of the two remaining Los Angeles casinos open in Gardena. On September of 2005, the Normandie Casino was designated as one of the card clubs to send representative to the 5 Million Dollar World Poker Tournament, and now they are sending Ben Jones. The World Poker Tour starts April 18th through the 24th. After 1350 players (participants), $150,000 in payouts, 25 weeks of tournaments, 6 times a week, twice a day and 150 games, Navy Chief Petty Officer (E7) Benjamin Jones was declared the winner and representative of the Normandie Casino by beating the 150 qualified finalists on Thursday, March 30th, 2006. Ben Jones is originally from Virginia and resides in Carson, California with his wife and two children. The last Game started at 7PM and ended at 1:30AM. "I couldn't believe it, my e-mail address says Lucky Me, and this proves it," the 17-year Navy veteran said. When asked what he attributed to his win, he said, "Dreams can come true, if you just keep chasing them and I've been chasing this dream for a long, long time." In addition, when he wins the World Poker Tournament, he said he'll come back to the Normandie Casino and have a major celebration. | |
