GPS Technology will Help Regulating Online Gambling

- Sunday, 6 Aug 2006

The online gambling industry has recently become an issue of real controversy, as US legislators approved a bill to prohibit credit cards companies and banks from working with online gambling sites, making it impossible for users to directly make payment to casinos online. US House of Representatives make the claim that the online gambling industry does not do enough to recognize problem gamblers and prevent them from further lapsing into damaging habits.

However, new technology was recently presented to online gambling operators on the National Council of Legislators from Gaming States meeting. Bill White, CEO of Global Cyber GPS, announced a new patent using GPS, which will, in his words, perfect regulation for online gambling. "What's wrong with online gambling is the absence of regulation", said White, "The governments you represent need the ability to regulate online gambling, which has not existed until now". His company's patent is using GPS technology to create geographic borders in cyberspace, thereby allowing online casino operators to prove to state regulatory agencies that all of their online casino members are physically located within a given jurisdiction boundary. This will enable governments to obtain required data regarding online casino gamblers, even verifying the identity and age of these users.
White, known for his announcement made on the annual Global Gaming Expo in Las Vegas last October, created a media stir saying "A legitimate, fully lawful online gambling industry is coming to America, and soon". Though no one in the online gambling industry was to take his word on it, White was asked by the council to perform an early demonstration of his technology and received positive responses to his appearance on the NCLGS meeting. NCLGS president, Senator Steven Geller, stated that if White's technology really works, this can be a huge step for the online gambling industry.
