- Monday, 16 Jan 2006
Steve Paul-Ambrose, a 22-year-old student from University of Waterloo in Canada won more than $1.3-million after gambling for a week at the 3rd Annual Poker Stars Caribbean Adventure at the Atlantis Casino Resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. More than 700 players attended the gambling event competing for the grand prize. In addition to winning the money, Ambrose also managed to secure himself with a seat in the World Poker Tours championship tournament estimated at $25,000.
The gambling event is scheduled to take place in April of this year in Sin City. This year’s gambling tournament was organized by Poker Stars, an established online gambling site that has cultivated quite a following over the years. In order to participate in the event, participants had to part with an $8,000 entree fee. Ambrose ended up paying only $102 given that he won a series of competitions through the online gambling site.
Ambrose is the latest example in what seems to be a growing gambling trend sweeping away the country. Some college students engage in online gambling for recreational purposes while other use it as a way to pay their tuition. This has become a widespread phenomenon, taking place at colleges and Universities alike.
