- Friday, 28 Jul 2006
The popular, and now famous, gambling site online – Bet On Sports – has recently removed David Carruthers from his position as CEO following his arrest in the US on charges of alleged racketeering and conspiracy. The news that this well-known CEO had been stopped and arrested by the US sent shock waves throughout the gambling industry causing a great deal of concern among CEO’s of gambling sites everywhere.
Specifically quoting the company, it was said that ‘the contract under which David Carruthers acted as CEO of the company was terminated’. It went on to say that ‘Clearly while he remains in the custody of the US Government he is unable to perform his duties. Further, the company has been unable to speak directly with Mr. Carruthers.’ This is a serious situation for this popular gambling site. With the negative publicity and ongoing developments regarding Carruthers’ case, this gambling site has a great deal to cope with regarding its operation and the concerns of its online gamers.
With the future of gambling on the Internet still unclear in the US, many online casino operators are staying away from US borders and trying to continue to run their gambling sites without trouble or fear. But their eyes are all on the US to see what steps and measures the country will take against this former CEO and what type of example it is seeking to set to other online gambling operators.
