The huge fortunes made by online gambling operators have long been a conversation piece in industry circles. Recently, however, some gambling bosses have made several lists of the wealthiest people in the world, casting new light on just how much there is to be made in the fast paced world of online gambling.
Before making it big in gambling, many operators were employed in business, marketing or various other small-scale online industries. Ruth Parasol, founder of Party Gaming, originally began her career in litigation and rose in prominence in the online gambling industry to make number 164 on Forbe’s list of the 400 richest people in 2005. Parasol’s decision to float Party Gaming on the London Stock Exchange last year resulted in millions in revenue for the gambling firm’s board. Parasol herself retained her 32 percent shareholding and cemented her status as one of the online casino industry’s most successful billionaires.
There is little doubt that huge fortunes remain to be made due to the gambling industry’s phenomenal growth rate. Backgrounds in accounting and litigation have also come in useful in the cash-oriented world of gambling and those who have made it to the top have generally put their sound business and commercial knowledge to good use. However, a large part of success in any industry comes down to being in the right place at the right time, and most of the casino industry’s top players would agree that it is no different in this regard.
