- Wednesday, 22 Mar 2006
The House is not rushing to vote on a bid which would legalize gambling slot machines in the state’s racetracks. One senator is getting very annoyed about the pending bill and the lack of voting and is promising to push the gambling bill forward and force the vote in the coming days. Rep. David Flynn said that if the House leadership would stick to their timetable, then he would not be forced to take such action, but because this gambling bill has been pending for too long, he feels the time has come to be pro-active.
Flynn was talking specifically about the gambling bill, but the phenomenon of stalling votes has become common place in the House. It seems that other than the personal whim of those taking place in the voting, there is no set order to dealing with bills. The House Speaker will take up the gambling issue if and when he wants to, it has been reported. Meanwhile, opponents of the gambling bill are using the stalling period to gather votes in favor of their position.
The racetrack owners, in the meantime, are waiting anxiously to see if this gambling bill will pass. If it does, they will be sitting pretty on a potential gold mine of earnings from the gambling slot machines to be placed in their territory. The racetrack owners deserve to know where they stand so that they can begin to prepare the premises if the bill passes. Flynn is promising that he will ensure that the bill is voted on in the coming days. Let’s see if he manages. | |
