Security at online gambling sites was the number one worry for adult Americans who were recently asked their opinions about online gambling. Harris Interactive ran a poll and asked the general public about several issues surrounding online gambling, including safety issues, industry regulation and general support of the online casino world. Polls such as these are regularly run to gain some insight into the public’s views on such a sensitive and highly publicized topic.
The poll by Harris Interactive produced some interesting facts. It showed, for example, that 76% of those interviewed thought that online gambling sites were not completely safe and that their personal data could not be properly protected. While public interest in online gambling was on the rise, 64% of those polled thought that online gambling was an industry that could not be effectively regulated. Within this final statistic, 33% of the 17-27 year-old age group thought that the industry could be effectively regulated, with approximately the same percentage in the 28-39 year-old age group saying the same thing.
As mentioned before, public interest in online gambling is at an all-time high, thanks partly to the exposure that certain games such as poker receive by the mass media. Over $300-million is spent on gambling worldwide every day and the number is rising all the time.
