This year’s World Cup, which will be held in Germany, is less than a month away, and already the gambling action has started. Several major online sportsbooks have already started taking bets from gambling fans on who the winner will be, and the level of gambling expected on football’s most prestigious event is expected to generate millions.
The latest odds to win the World Cup favor Brazil at a majority of gambling sites. According to Bet 365, the defending champions are predicted to defend their title at odds of five to two. Despite the English team’s lack of form in recent competitions, gambling fans are queuing up to place their bets on an upset win and England’s chances of winning have been recorded at seven to one. The largest odds on winning the World Cup are Saudi Arabia at 1000 to one and Trinidad & Tobago at 1500 to one.
Several sites have already recorded a small number of bets placed on these teams by gambling fans obviously convinced that the odds can be beaten. Sports betting firms are hoping that this World Cup will encourage a new generation of gambling fans to place their bets, citing last year’s gambling on the U.S. Super Bowl as a level to aspire to.
