Americans are gambling more and more in recent years, but not everyone is happy about it, so according to a recent survey run by Pew Research Center for the People and the Press. The study found that seven out of ten people interviewed thought that because of legalized gambling, people are spending more at casinos, racetracks, lottery cards and game machines than they can actually afford. The people interviewed agreed that the pastime mostly gave them pleasure and enjoyment, but ultimately they were subconsciously encouraged to spend beyond their means.
The study also compared results of a similar survey taken 15 years ago about society attitudes towards gambling. It showed that in that survey, 67% of people interviewed also felt that legalized gambling was acceptable but they felt that they were gambling beyond their means. The organizers of the survey indicated that this must mean that this is a basic social characteristic related to gambling that has nothing to do with the current political situation which has the legality of gambling in question.
The study also found that 28% believe that gambling is immoral, while 29% admit that they have attended a casino or gambling venue in recent years. The trends also indicated that those people that do attend casinos are going more regularly than the survey performed 15 years ago.
