Online casino sites have brought much good to the world. The mass numbers of online gambling fans show that there was a need for online casinos and that it fills something in people’s life. The danger is, however, still present, namely of irresponsible online gambling practices. Gamblers at time forget the world around them and make online gambling more than just a hobby; they make it their lives. It is as much a concern of the online casinos as it is of the gamblers themselves.
Therefore, the new international initiative to address the problem, assist and protect online gamblers from problematic conduct is so necessary and so welcome. The discussion on the issue follows the January online gambling show which took place in London and hosted many from around the industry. One top online gambling software company has led the way for top level, roundtable discussions on the matter.
One of the goals with which the participants wish to walk away with is a uniform international industry-spanning code for responsible online gambling. The single code will cover all online gambling sites and software providers, thus protecting online gamblers no matter where in the world they live and what site they play at. Also taking the lead on the issue are the United Kingdom’s authority on problem gambling, GamCare, and the widely known and respected self regulatory body eCOGRA. The meeting are already on their way, and a final resolution will hopefully be reached by next Autumn.
