Yesterday, we focused on point spread gambling as one of the most common types of sports gambling. In today’s article we’ll explore another popular form of sports gambling which is called “total” or “over/under” gambling. The same as yesterday, this is also referred to as a straight bet, since it pertains to the outcome of an individual game. An over/under bet is gambling on the combined points scored by the two teams competing. This type of wager is usually reserved for team sports like basketball and football.
The idea behind making this sort of a bet is predicting whether or not the combined amount of points scored by both teams will go over or under the amount specified by the bookmaker. For example, in a hypothetic basketball game between the Chicago Bulls and the Indiana Pacers, the online gambling site may specify a “Game Total” of 180 points. If you with to make an over/under wager, you will have to pick whether or not the specified score will be surpassed.
If you wagered on “over” and the combined number of points scored by both teams exceeded the 180, you lose. On the other hand, if you wagered “under”, you would have won the bet. In the event the combined number of points equals 180, it’s referred to as a “tie” or a “push”, in which case your money is refunded. | |
