- Tuesday, 7 Feb 2006
Gambling on sporting events has reached new highs in recent years, with this year’s Super Bowl XL set to become the biggest sports betting event in the history of online gambling. Tens of millions of bets have already been placed by gambling fans across the United States, with the total amount expected to top the $600 million generated by last year’s Super Bowl.
Analysts from Christian Capital Advisors and sports gambling site Sports Book have little doubt that this year’s Super Bowl will be the biggest sports betting event of all time. Online gambling has expanded significantly on football events over the last three years. Its popularity has been attributed to the ease of access many fans now have to sports betting sites. And while the numbers gambling this year are impossible to predict, many sports betting sites say that thousands of fans who have never previously bet on the Super Bowl are participating.
Last year’s Super Bowl figures were estimated by Christian Capital Advisors to be between $450 and $600 million for the entire country. The Nevada Gaming Control Board also reported a record number of bets on last year’s event; $90.7 million being collected from those gambling in Las Vegas alone. As this year’s event looks set to break all records, sports betting sites are eager to attract new gamblers by offering the most favorable odds. All the action can only mean one thing – gambling on sporting events just keeps getting bigger.
